Hay Testing / Selection

PHN will take a representative sample of your hay using a “hay core probe” and submit the sample to a reputable laboratory for nutrient analysis.  PHN will assist with selection of hay that will best suit the nutrient needs of your horses.

PHN will evaluate your horse’s current diet compared to its’ scientific nutrient requirements to determine if the diet is adequate or if it requires modification.

This is a visual means of evaluating fat covering and muscle of a horse.  It gives a good indication of the dietary adequacy of calorie intake.  It is a very useful tool to determine if the horse is being fed enough feed.

Large farms or stables often benefit from having a “custom” grain mix formulated for them that matches the types of forages fed and the feeding management of the farm or stable.  PHN puts custom mixes together that can then be bid by different feed manufacturers.

PHN is actively involved in research to determine suitability of formulated feeds, intake of free-choice products and trends in nutrient content of feed ingredients.  This research is utilized to help develop products that ideally suit the needs of the horse.

PHN offers an independent, scientific approach to solving problems with horses.  These problems can be related to feed, performance, growth or reproduction

PHN works in concert with veterinarians to outline diets to help sick or diseased horses heal and/or manage symptoms.

A common question is “Is this a good supplement” or “is this supplement necessary?” PHN can evaluate the nutrition merits of a supplement and assist you with determining the best supplement choices for your individual horse.
